I’m Lovin’ It

IMG_8399It’s a rainy Saturday morning here in Nashville as I sit writing this…I have my favorite mug (I have a penchant for coffee mugs) and my home smells of fresh baked goods. (This is what happens when you wake up early on a Saturday y’all)

This weather makes me want to stay in, cozy up and read a book, which incidentally is why I am getting out today. I have a couple of books on hold at the library that I cannot wait to dig into. Consequently that got me thinking on what I am loving right now. Do you find in certain seasons you just love certain things? Or you discover something and just think everyone should get in on the amazingness?

So today as we all get our Saturdays going, whether its rainy or a perfect, crisp fall day let’s share what we’re loving….

All the books. I am devouring books as of late and I am on the hunt for more. I scour lists and reviews, new releases and classics alike. If you didn’t catch it earlier this week, I wrote on the book Fervent I just finished. I highly encourage you to check it out! (PS Renee you are the winner of the giveaway! I’ll message you for an address)

Another great one is Invisible by Jennifer Rothschild where she talks through how we are more like Gomer from the Hosea story than we ever thought possible. What am I picking up today from the library? Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore and The Sisters Brothers. I have been on a non-fiction kick so I wanted a breather with some fiction.

Speaking of these books, I got the suggestion on those from quite possibly the best pop culture podcast in the world. Popcast Podcast is hosted by Knox and Jamie, and if you haven’t downloaded it yet, I highly suggest you do friends. I find that I have to be careful on where I listen to it simply because I laugh and talk back to them (THAT’S A RED LIGHT?!?!). I might’ve gotten defensive of candy corn this week on their Halloween episode. They give great suggestions on books and have a plethora of resources backlogged. Seriously go listen to the archives.

Another podcast I am feeding on is the Limetown Stories podcast. Sort of Serial, sort of creepy stories. Totally fascinating. Granted I am a mystery story fiend but this is good stuff, and I think I am late to the party on it…so join in!

While everyone is spilling their coffee over the new Star Wars trailer, I was seeing Jem and the Holograms this week. It’s getting horrible reviews, but you know what? I loved it….loooooved it. The reason being I was a Jem nut as a kid. I dressed as her one Halloween, and I am talking old school Halloween costumes. You know the ones that had the creepy plastic masks that covered your whole face and the trash-bag like full body “outfit”? Yeah, I had that and you should be jealous. I don’t remember really what other things I went as for Halloween but oh, I remember my Jem costume. So that’s why I loved it. It was fun, I wasn’t looking for big action or deep plot line. I was looking for Jem and her identity questions and some fun songs. I got just that. 80s ladies, go see it with your gals and enjoy it. Then go buy something pink and sparkly.

I also saw Bridge of Spies in a pre-release screening. It was so exceptionally well done. Tom Hanks is just an actor y’all. He does phenomenal work yet again that reminded me why I enjoy him ever so much, and that he has some comedic timing that we don’t see too much. Being a history nerd I hadn’t heard much about the incident it is based off of but my dad had and shared some after the movie with me. Really intriguing how they used an insurance lawyer to negotiate hostage releases…

New Eats
If you follow me over on Dining Out Solo, you’ll note I haven’t posted in a bit. My schedule has been a bit nuts and I haven’t had time to update where I have been. But definitely bookmark it as I will be putting some places I have been recently…but I have been doing alot of mastery of my own domain in the kitchen of late.

I explored roasting broccoli for the first time (looooved it!), going to a night market where I stocked up, going off recipe, and sharing with the neighbors some of my new baking exploits. All in all it’s about just finding some confidence (and being willing to royally mess up something) when baking or cooking and letting that give you footing to try new things.

Yes, Adele has a new song out….and it’s on repeat all over the place. I love it but let’s pull up the reigns y’all or we’ll scare her off again. Let’s give her a good side hug welcome back and then only text her mid-week, k? None of this flipping out scalping tickets to her one show nonsense alright?

If you haven’t heard of Dan Bremnes, let me be the first to introduce you. His song “In His Hands” is so good…go have a listen and I’ll wait right here. Seriously, go listen to it. It’s just good worship music.

For my Christian heathens (I am one too) who loves some non-Christian music…ah, run! devil music! I cannot stop singing “Hey hey hey, living like we’re renegades” all. day. long. I really like X Ambassadors and if you haven’t heard the song, let me introduce you right here. You’ll be humming along to it the rest of the day.

So that’s all I got right now on what I am loving…oh there’s probably a hundred more things but my writing-self and my ADD-self have come to an understanding that we’ll stop here. What are you loving right now? Anything you think I need to check out? Let me know below so we can all share….
