This week’s Top Five will reflect my favorite television shows. I know there’s a lot of people who don’t have cable, or who say “Oh I don’t watch tv” which is fine with me. I still watch tv and enjoy several shows. I tend to read quite a bit, but also really like to watch television. If I find a show that is smart, funny, or out of the ordinary…you bet I will watch it.
Today I am sharing with you what my current Top Five Shows are on television. (Game of Thrones was left off only because it’s not in-season currently)
1. Walking Dead on AMC. First of all, Andrew Lincoln is a great actor. The fact he’s British and pulls that Southern Georgia drawl off is even more amazing. Most people think it’s a show about zombies, however I think it’s a great commentary on the dynamics of culture and society at large. The actors and writing on this show never cease to amaze me on where they’ll take the story or how they’ll pull such raw emotion from circumstances. I highly recommend this show but watch it from the beginning…this isn’t a jump in at any time type of show. And yes, I still fast forward through some of the zombie attacks cause I get freaked out watching it on Sunday nights after Stretch group.
2. The Vampire Diaries on CW. This is my guilty pleasure show. I initially read the three original books years ago by L.J. Smith. This show was birthed out of them so I was intrigued to see how they’d transform them. But truthfully there’s a whole lot of pretty on this show. (Have you all SEEN Ian Somerhalder?!)I’ve enjoyed this show for what it is-brain candy. They are doing some wild things with the initial books and I love where it’s going.
3. New Girl on Fox. Shame on you if haven’t seen this show. I love the humor of Zooey Deschanel so much now. (I used to just be plain annoyed by her mere presence) Max Greenfield and Zooey should have won for their roles as they are so great at delivering great content. My sister and I routinely have quote-offs via Facebook during the show on Tuesday nights. Oddly enough I identify with all the cast too in some way. Bravo Fox and Zooey Deschanel on this show…you done good.
4.Once Upon a Time on ABC. I’m a sucker for a fairy tale. I always have been, and probably always will be. Snow White was my favorite until my first viewing of Beauty and the Beast. So this show is right up my alley. It doesn’t hurt that Ginnifer Goodwin is one of my favorite actresses too and she plays Mary Margaret/Snow. The strong female characters on this show also call out to me, as that’s something you don’t often see in fairy tale remakings. Good show, and the topic of adoption is brought up frequently which I think is a relevant issue in today’s society.
5. Elementary on CBS. Okay what initially drew me was Jonny Lee Miller. I’ve had a crush on that man since Hackers back in the 90s. Then he was in BBC’s remake of Emma and now a television remake of Sherlock? You sold me CBS, based purely off of one actor. This show is great though…smart, quick, and I love shaking up the dynamic of Watson being female.
So these are my favorite shows right now…what are you watching?
